Britons spend 30 hours preparing for a holiday, according to new research. Preparations generally begin five weeks before departure and include reading reviews, looking for holiday deals, talking to friends and pre-holiday shopping. With more information now available through the internet, consumers can more easily book a successful holiday by avoiding locations and experiences with negative reviews.
Follow these tips from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to prepare for your summer holiday:
- Communicate travel plans, such as itinerary and contact details, with family and friends
- Take more than one means of payment with you, such as cash and a credit card. Make sure you have access to enough funds to cover emergencies
- Check the entry requirements of the country you’re travelling to
- Visit your GP at least four to six weeks before your trip to check for necessary jabs. Make sure to also pack medical supplies for unexpected emergencies
- Purchase travel insurance, especially if participating in extreme sports or water sports. Speak with the insurance professionals at Bennett Christmas Insurance Brokers Ltd for more information on how travel insurance can protect you while on holiday
- Avoid openly displaying mobile phones, digital cameras or other valuables
- Research local customs and dress, and always obey local laws
